Naked Acts (The Choice of Kanea Indigo)
Bridgett M. Davis | Drama | 1996 | 1h 30 min | USA
Naked Acts provides a fresh perspective on African American artistry and identity. Set on the intense and exposing set of a low-budget film, it follows Cicely, an actress—and daughter of a former Blaxploitation film star—who has recently shed 57 pounds and landed her first role in an art film. When she discovers that her role requires a nude scene, Cicely faces an unexpected challenge: Can she stay true to herself while still committing to the part? In this sole feature by writer-director Bridgett M. Davis, Naked Acts offers a nuanced portrait of a young woman who learns that emotional vulnerability often reveals more than physical exposure ever could.
The film Naked Acts is the choice of Kanea Indigo, a trans, Afropean artist based in Rotterdam. Passionate about storytelling and self-expression, his multidisciplinary work spans poetry, voguing, styling, performing, acting and playing bass. In 2021, his poetry was published in Rotterdam Queer Magazine KLAUWmag Volume 2 and The Queer & Feminist Poetry Anthology of Unwanted Words, celebrating queer and feminist voices.
Driven by a passion for amplifying authentic stories, Kanea’s art thrives at the intersection of movement, visuals, and sound, creating inclusive work that both challenges and celebrates.
