Nomade in Niemansland + Talk: Parallel Spaces
Hester Jonkhout | documentary | 2024 | 50 min.| Curacao | English Subtitles
Nomade in No Man’s Land follows the life of Caribbean artist and filmmaker Felix de Rooy. As a pioneer in the Dutch Kingdom, he explores through his work what it means to be queer and Caribbean. De Rooy challenges the established order with themes such as the relationship between the Netherlands and Curaçao and the image of Black people. Despite his social impact, he remains undervalued in the white art world.
The afternoon starts with the screening of Nomade in No Man’s Land, a film by Hester Jonkhout that serves as a starting point for the discussion afterwards.
After the screening, Black Soil organizes a panel discussion in collaboration with Well Made Productions on Black Leadership in Film. Ernest Roscoe Dickerson (USA) and Felix de Rooy will go in discussion moderated by Gabri Christa and discuss the challenges and opportunities of leadership within communities of color.
