O REGRESSO DE AMÍLCAR CABRAL is the first film by Guinean filmmakers after independence in 1974. The documentary chronicles the transfer of Amílcar Cabral’s remains from Conakry to Bissau in 1976, featuring Guinean music and archival footage of Cabral during the guerrilla war. It pays tribute to the political thinker and freedom fighter while encouraging the Guinean diaspora to return to their liberated homeland. One of the few films preserved at the National Film Institute of Guinea-Bissau (INCA), it was digitized in 2012 with a grant from the Cultural Preservation Programme of the Federal Foreign Office.

In Search of Borboletas follows the journey of artist GeryMendes. As an artist-in-residence, he travels to Lisbon and Cape Verde, where he delves into his family history and the rich traditions of Cape Verdean music. While playing with legendary artists, he explores the connection between past and present. Rotterdam film and documentary maker boubadola follows his personal and quest closely, creating an intimate and inspiring portrait of the search for identity and cultural heritage.

The film program is part of the closing day of the exhibition ‘Casa di Cabral’ curated by Tania Christina.

Before the film program there is a short exhibition tour and an introduction by filmmaker Bouba dola. After the program in hiphophuis there will be a theatrical music show by the Rotterdam artist of Cape Verdean origin Gery Mendes at LantarenVenster.
